The Fire Series

The Fire Series of paintings do not depict flame in any literal sense, they inhabit its qualities. The reds that deepen into ember, the oranges that fracture into light, and the current of heat that doesn't quite settle under act surface. Each work is an expression of fire's essential nature rather than its appearance. Energy made visible, and transformation caught mid-movement.

For centuries, fire has occupied a place at the very centre of human imagination. Fire is one of four classical elements in Greek mythology and in science. Fire had spontaneity - it would waver and was impossible to hold - fire is known as the element of energy, assertiveness and passion. As the alchemists understood, the founding principle of fire as the catalyst that changed the nature of things.
